Spin Chat Help and Information System
The chatroom or private talk windows do not open! The chat does not work!
There are a number of reasons for problems like this. You may need a little testing.
I have installed Windows XP, and now the chat will not work anymore!
You have to download and install Java: Sun Java
I am getting this message: Connection failed.
A firewall, either on your computer or in your network blocks the chat or you have no complete internet connection. More information on connection problems is available here.
The chat used to work!
If Spin Chat has been running on your computer in the past, has your systems configuration been changed in some way lately? That would include installing security software, changing browser settings, and the like. If so, try to revert those changes for a test.
You also should clear your cache and temporary internet files; please find the appropriate options in your browser's settings or the "internet options".
Note that while deleting you should not be visiting Spin Chat. To be sure with windows you should exit all programmes, restart your computer and before doing anything else empty your brower's cache.
Visiting Spin Chat for the first time, and it will not work!
If there is no little grey window named "Spin Chat Status" opening after login, your java installation may be damaged or not existent.
In this case please download and install the appropriate package for your system:
- Windows users please install Sun Java.
- Mac OS and Mac OS X users install the newest Java version availlable via "softwareupdate".
- Linux users should install the Java version their distribution provides.
If you are using Internet Explorer, please switch security settings to the default "moderate" in "preferences".
When you are using security software like "personal firewalls" or advertising blockers we recommend you disable those programmes for testing purposes; in particular we advise against using more than one of such programmes at the same time, because they are known to get in each others way (see also "General information concerning security").
If this did not work, you may want to try using a different web browser. Firefox, Mozilla and Opera are usable alternatives for Windows Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer installations often break when installing software, because of their tight integration with Windows. Alternative browsers do not have this problem.
Please also make sure, a direct connection from your computer to the Spin Chat chatservers can be made. Look here for more information.
