How can I change my password?

Often the passwords the system creates and sends can hardly be memorised, thus you want to change yours.

Before changing it try to come up with a password which you both can memorise an still nobody can guess right, even nobody from for example your circle of friends.

The saver your password the less likely somebody else can guess it right. You certainly want to avoid that somebody else can log in with your nickname and fool around in and with your name. He/she could for example write mean entries in your friends' guestbooks, annoy them in the chat, etc. He/she could read all your chatmails and also delete them, send mean chatmails in your name, etc. He/she could change your data such as password or email address an even delete your nickname.

Some hints and assistance on how to come up with a save password:

• The password should be unique, i.e. you should only use it in this chat and not at any other site or else it could happen that the owner of site xyz could read your emails, log in with your nickname, etc.
  
• Never re-use a password.
  
• Always use at least 6 characters in your password; 8 or more are better.
  
• It must contain at least one digit (0-9); a combination of letters, digits, and special characters is better.
  You can use the following special characters: "&", "+", "-", "@", "$", "_", "/", "(", ")", "#", "?", "!" und "%".
  
• Our system differentiates between uppercase and lowercase letters. If possible use both uppercase and lowercase letters in your password.
  
• If possible use letters, digits, and special characters only once each.
  
• Do never use your name or the name of a friend, a pet, your favourite star, film, book, or the city you are living in, etc. It is a wrong assumption if you think simple tricks like spelling your name backwards or the like improve security, they do not.
  
• Do never use birth dates in nor form whatsoever.

To actually change your password, log in, go to the subnavigation on the start page, click on "Preferences", "General". In section "Registration" click on the button "Change password". Enter the necessary data and confirm by clicking on the button "Change password". You will be shown a message which says your password has been changed.
