09 Jul 2011 18:01 Foxconn (Apple Factory) & SuicidesThanks everyone for chiming in on the last thread. I didn't have time to come back and comment myself. But it looks like almost everyone understood what was going on. I read the Toronto Sun quite often and I remembered seeing articles about foxconn written in May. Here's 2 articles that were written in May. It discusses the conditions the workers live in, why they can't leave, etc. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/05/06/foxconn-makes-employees-promise-not-to-commit-suicide-report Here is an article written a week later about another suicide at the plant which makes wonderful apple products. http://www.china.org.cn/china/2010-05/17/content_20053381_2.htm This is an article about an explosion that happened at Foxconn due to the lack of care for the employees a week after the last suicide. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/05/24/explosion-at-china-ipad-factory-highlights-lax-safety I just wish I could find the article i read about the company erecting fences on the roof and barring all the windows making it look like a prison.... But I will keep searching for it |
