Self Help books are for the helpless.

You are helpless.

I'm donating some of the best books of that kind to a local library for youths where I'm going next week.
B.S. I dont need to explain you that. Yes, you worth nothing.

I'm considering The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey. What do you think?

After all this time, i have never understood why they call it "self help book".
It's just strange and weird.

if you're looking for self help, why would you read a book written by somebody else? that's not self help. that's help.

re

Self-help books enable you to help yourself by suggesting techniques that you can try which have been proven to work for other people.

Sometimes it can be useful to try ideas you wouldn't otherwise have considered.

I just happened to see the title of one of those type of books in the book shop today...

"101 ways to forget about your ex... " and in small "... and find a new one quick" Or similar anyway, with a heart and two crossed bones as if it were a skull :P

Haven't actually read any books of this sort though.

Ah, found the cover: 101 ways...

I love self-help books! I grab at them all the time. Nothing that really applies to me, but I love learning about different things people experience. One of my first favorites is "my husband is gay" which explains the various reason why gay men marry women and sometimes start families. And why some women accept it. I love books geared to helping the eating disordered, OCD sufferers, people with body dysmorphia... It's all so interesting!!!!

a reason for being self-help

Reply to ok.... by mickilbello

Are you into semantics?

I think most of us would easily reach out to
others if we need to get a problem of ours
solved i.e. talking to a friend. In this way,
we get our help from another person, per se.

But, what if, we read a book that we found
in the self-help section of the bookstore?
You read through, try to apply "the rules" within the
book's pages, and observe if anything changes
in your life. All of these, you do by yourself.
