Lamb:

full title: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christs Childhood Pal.
Written by Christian Moore.

Goodness, Id imagine theres a few of you reading that book title, thinking to yourselves,
Raistlin...reading religion...what the...?

Id like to say this book is Religious, but its not, but it is, but its not.

Lamb follows the tale of Levi, who is called Biff, and brings a ' what if ' account of
the missing 30 years of christ (1ad to 33ad). I was put onto this book, by a good friend,
and i was a fair bit sceptical, But i was made somewhat extremely curious by a note from the author
about it. he said on the book:

" If you are reading this book, with the intention of being offended, I'd suggest you close this book,
and read something else "

So, i read the damned thing.

One of the first things I got out of this book, was the Base level comedy,
Which i do need to stress, isnt the driving force between the covers, but it adds an element of making
the book much easier to take in. The next part of what i got out of it, was the absolutely amazing amount
of detail and study the Author would have had to have done, to combine many different religions to
tie the entire book together as he has.

It covers Christ (who in the book is known by his name Joshua) and his mission to become The Messiah,
by going off and seeking the Three Wise Men so he can learn all he needs to know about his role on earth.
Biff, goes along with him, and Acts somewhat as his Concience. In his travels, it covers Buddhism, Hinduism,
Zen, The Wizard of Oz, Starwars, Kama Sutra, Yetis, and a great many other things besides, as well as
Christianity.

To Close: Id reccomend this book to anybody that can appreciate religion, but can also appreciate that
the story isnt 'the facts' nor is it 'to be taken seriously' Its just a What If, with a lot of colour and detail.

So I shall leave you, with a quote, from the end of Chapter 19. And stress a last time, The book is extremely
worth the read, but if you are the sort that might get offended by such things, dont read it.

At the end of chapter 19, Biff and Joshua (Jesus) are leaving a mountain monestary where the last of the Yeti has just died... Most of them having been killed off by the mountain people.
Joshua: "That's why they killed the Yeti. You know that don't you?"
Biff: "Who?"
Joshua: "The mountain people. They killed the yeti because they couldn't understand a creature who wasn't as evil as they were."
Biff: "The mountain people were evil?"
Joshua: "All men are evil, that's what I was talking to my father (god) about."
Biff: "What did he say?"
Joshua: "Fuck 'em."
Biff: "Really?"
Joshua: "Yeah."
Biff: "At least he answered you."
Joshua: "I got the feeling he thinks it's my problem now."
Biff: "Makes you wonder why he didn't burn that on one of the tablets. 'HERE. MOSES, HERE'S THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, AND HERE'S AN EXTRA ONE THAT SAYS FUCK 'EM."
Joshua: He doesn't sound like that."
Biff: "FOR EMERGENCIES."

Thank you for this. I've had that book sitting on my shelve forever and haven't been able to bring myself to read it. It came highly recommended but I couldn't get past the religion of it.
I figured it was either completely religious or mocking religion...neither of which is something I want to read.

So thank you for saying something other than "nah dude, its cool"
I shall read it immediately :)

the person...

who recommended this book to me is someone I went to pre-sschool with.
Both of her parents were devout in their religion as is she.
She had read the book when it first came out, loaned it to a friend, and never got it back for some reason.
She liked it enough that she purchased it again, quite looking forward to reading it again.
I loved it, and laughed through most of it.
