you are saying it not a sin to be homosexual but it is a sin to act on it

re

People who are racist think they have real and genuine reasons for being so and will justify it (regardless how pathetic their justifications are) and believe it. Just the same as religious ppl will justify their discriminative behaviour against homosexuals who feel they have every right to do so bc they percieve the bible as telling them they can and its right.

and you have totally misunderstood what i was saying...

i said, in so many words.......so its okay to be black or white w/e and discriminate against others who are a different colour to you so long as you dont act on it. Thats stupid!

It´s to much black and white with Jane Elliott. She uses it because it has effect. But is life that black and white as she portray´s it? I don't think so therefore it's a good experiment but Jane should do this not with students but with much more experienced and are more eloquent. Than you'll get a much better experiment. Now there is no room for discussion because Jane is to much for those students.

Re

Good point. I believe her point though was to raise awareness in the minds of these young people, and she did that and more.

I know right?

My sardonic comment was meant to illustrate that we're not really talking about skin color.

why didn't anyone stand up to this mean old lady who said her experiment was done before by Hitler
kind of baffled me how easily people were eager to follow along with it
shrugs

Could be a misunderstanding

Reply to Re by Dope

but I thought she meant that Hitler discriminated by eye colour (and other things) as well not that he conducted this exact experiment before which would be a ludicrous claim.

re

The tactics Jane Elliott uses is dehumanizing, Hitler uses the same tactic. So its not that ludicrous. Thats why it is so wrong what she is doing.

I get your point here. I think though with the awareness she's instilled in them, that they will be more aware of these things happening, and even believe they will stand up when it matters. Maybe not all of them, but I believe the message is still place where it's needed in awakening people's consciousness to the issue.

I agree that is is dehumanizing, but unlike Hitler, her intentions were for sake of humanity, and not a set group of people.

But you posed it as an analogy to maybe some black people want to be white...

I think she showed how good it feels to be on the other side of discrimination, wouldn't it have been better for the students to have opposed her authority not only for the principle but for the individuals who were on the receiving end of her illogical abuse, those students not only proved that they had no mind of their own but also they actually enjoyed watching the dehumanization of their fellow students.
isn't racism brought about through ignorance ?
