17 Feb 2012 10:32 I Miss the 90's...Do you ever just sit back and wonder, “What happened to this world?” Specifically kids in this world and their childhood experience. My childhood experience was amazing in my opinion, being a 90’s kid and all. Looking at kids born in this modern age, I pity them because they will never get to experience what I experienced. I see young children walking around with IPhones, cussing at everyone they see, and staying indoors on a beautiful day. I simply can’t even imagine living my childhood like that. My equivalent to an IPhone was a game boy color. I played Pokemon, Mario, Donkey Kong, and that’s about it. I didn’t have Facebook, Farmville, or a million other apps that I constantly had to keep updated on. Sure, I sat around on the couch and played hours upon hours of Pokemon trying to complete my Pokedex but guess what? I shared these experiences with some of my best friends ever. We would run out to the neighborhood playground, sit on the swings, and take part in some of the fiercest Pokemon battles known to mankind. Then, there was that sure sign that you just knew that you had to be inside. The street light turns off. If you didn’t get back inside before that street light was off, your life is over. Kids these days are scared of rapists, murderers, and kidnappers. Back in the 90’s, all we had to worry about was the freaking street light turning off! Oh how times have changed. When was the last time you heard a kid cuss at his or her parent? Probably yesterday right? Back in the 90’s, the word “stupid” or “loser” earned a bar of soap in my mouth. Now, I hear kids drop F-bombs to their parents. THEIR PARENTS! The people who bought them the $400 IPhone and who will always love them, get cussed at, probably for a reason such as “YOU STUPID PARENTS, THE INTERNET IS OUT! FIX IT NOW!” Blink 182. Weezer. Nirvana. Green Day. Sum 41. The Offspring. Rage Against the Machine. Smashing Pumpkins. Radiohead. Pearl Jam. Those bands right there made the 90’s the best years of my life hands down (although maybe some of their influence leaked into the early 90’s, but the roots are deep into the 90’s). I literally enjoyed 99% of the songs that came out during the 90’s. From “Brick” by Ben Folds Five to “Groove is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite, I enjoyed it all. Point me to a “Top 1000 Songs of the 90’s” list, and I bet I would recognize and jam out to every single one of them. Even apart from the actual sound and lyrical content of the music, each song had its own special memory associated with it. I remember when I first discovered Blink 182 while my friends and I were in the local music store. We put “Dude Ranch” into the CD player and sat there in awe, amazed by this new-found eargasm, for almost 4 hours. You cannot even put Blink 182 in the same sentence as Ke$ha (although I just did). You simply cannot even compare Justin Bieber and Jimmy Eat World. The new artists of this generation are absolutely horrible. These are literally lyrics from a Nicki Minaj song: You a stupid hoe, you a, you a stupid hoe (x3) Compare that to a song that NOBODY can hate from one of the greatest movies of the 90’s: I will protect you from all around you ‘Cause you’ll be in my heart Brings back memories right? Going to Blockbuster to get “Inspector Gadget” or “Land Before Time” (yes the very first one!), instead of illegally downloading a movie and complaining when it won’t download in less than 10 seconds. Well, 90’s kids, I think you owe a HUGE thank you to God for letting you be born in the best decade of history on earth, thank your 50’s 60’s 70’s and 80’s parents for doing what had to be done for you to enter this world, and thank God again that you weren’t born in the 21st century! Have a wonderful day and never forget where your roots came from, because that is what defines you as an individual. Here is a list of 90’s stuff: Saturday morning cartoons, game boys, 150 Pokemon, yo-yo’s, the ORIGINAL Disney movies (and crying during most of them), push-pops, tamagotchi’s, play dough, “race car or barbie doll” at McDonalds, playing outside, VHS tapes, Goosebumps, Jumanji, scooters, slinkies, hot wheels, the back seat of the car, Toys R Us, the first Harry Potter book, slime from Nickelodeon, family movie night, Oregon Trail, beanie babies, Super Nintendo, Windows 95, and last but not least: Pluto being a planet! Thank you for your time. |

19 Feb 2012 20:26 Re:Yes i have to agree with you. Especially where you said kids and the way they speak to their parents these days. I still treat my parents with respect even when they are idiots, its just the done thing. Where as my younger siblings are very rude towards my parents and treat them with little respect. It shocks me sometimes the way they act. Perhaps we had more respect because our parents were brought up in the years where their parents were from a time when respecting your parents was very much a natural thing to do. Video games, movies, radio.. Is it the schools? Peer pressure? Parents? Im not sure but it really is different these days and yes the 90's were fun but that's only because we got to live through them, im sure kids these days think the 20's are the bomb and would not want to be growing up in any other time. Back in the day a 12 year old was just a kid but these days they are a young adult with an Iphone, laptop, GHD hair straighter the works. Thats like me having Nike airs when i was 15! |
19 Feb 2012 22:06 reEvery decade had something to hate and to love. Almost everything you mentioned I hate about the 90's. But the most about the 90's I hate is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_exp4C8bNfE&feature=related and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fr_idS01L6Y and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jeyn7WHoBUs and everything in that genre, makes me puke. |
20 Feb 2012 17:05 re90s was pretty much like he-man era for me . |
20 Feb 2012 17:07 rehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2qYUYFNZaU I miss the 90's music rather than the crap people try to pull off as good music these days. Britney Spears changed her whole style around... *shakes head* |
20 Feb 2012 17:14 reI miss those days. They even had better cartoons, like Doug, Johnny Bravo, Dextor's Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, CatDog, Hey Arnold, Ed Edd and Eddy... I can keep going on... These days they have boring cartoons 1 Plus I used to always play with Barbie dolls, and I think that even the Barbie company that makes the dolls and low standard compared bto how it used to be. I'm still mad about my mom throwing away my Barbie book bag full of Barbies lol ... I know I'm 'too old for that' but I wanted to save it for memories =p |
