Rules of the game

Chess

Chess is one of the oldest strategy games in the world, orgiginally invented in Persia (today's Iran). As the playing rules are well-known and very extensive, only a very brief manual is included here.

Moving
There are two ways of moving a chessman:

After a chessman is selected, it is marked with a red frame. This mark disappears as soon as the mouse cursor is moved outside the board, after selecting another chessman (exception: castling) or by clicking on the same man for the second time. Fields the chessman can move to are marked green under the mouse cursor. These are the only fields the man can move to; if this left the own king checked, this will be displayed not before the attempt of proceeding the move.
The last finished move is marked on its start and end field (dark red and dark green).

Castling
Simply move the king to the desired rook (or vice-versa). If you just want to select the other chessman for moving instead, first move the mouse cursor to the right outside of the board or select another third chessman before. The following reasons make a castling impossible:

Promoting a pawn
When a pawn has reached the first line of the opponent, it has to be promoted to a rook, a knight, a bishop or a queen. Therefore, simply click on the desired chessman on the menu that appears in the middle of the board right after moving the pawn. Actually, the move does not end before the pawn is promoted.

Draw
You can offer a draw game to the opponent at any time by selecting the corresponding menu item. The opponent can accept that the same way at any time later in the game. The game then will end as a draw game. There is no automatic draw game.

Surrendering
Surrendering is possible at any time by selecting the corresponding menu item.
