Well today was another fun run. I don't blog about each fun run I do. Each one is fun, don't get me wrong. Just some you get more excited more about than others. This one was I was excited about for a few reasons...
1. It's Brighton baby! Greek central! LOL
2. Near the beach so there would be a nice breeze
3. The last two fun runs I did, I did them under the 6min/km pace and knowing this run was considered a fast and flat course, I knew my run would be under the 60 min run.
4. The dragons who pace the run according to what time you had in time. You see one in front and you just speed up to beat them :)
On Friday, I found out that Sonia from boot camp was doing the run too! So there would be a face to look out for when I was down there.
So we woke up at 6am this morning and left home just after 6:30am. The trusty GPS got us there in 40 min and parking was fairly easy. Mark and I then realized the starting point was the beach where we went to at the beginning of the year after the Menai run and it was the place I got sunburnt for the first time in my life! Weird...
So I picked up my kit and started to get ready, putting it on. Sonia then came up to us and we started chatting. I told her about how I wasn't always into running and a few other stuff. Very soon, the dragons went off and then it was our turn!
As promised, the run was a flat course. I think I caught 5 or six dragons in total. I saw a run fun dragon, 75min , 70min, 65min and then the 60min dragon. Once I passed the 60 min dragon, I was happy. I knew I was under the hour so my goal was complete. Now the goal was to pass the people that were on my toes.
As with every race, there are always people that you pass and then they pass you, and the cycle continues. This time, I HAD to make sure I stayed in front. When I passed the dragon, while I continued to speed up the pace, the ones who had been in front slowed down a bit and I continued to power through. Right at the end when I was about to pass through the finish line, I sprinted through and beat another girl who had been just in front for most of the race. Mark got a photo with his phone and then said he wasn't sure if I was in it because it was the backs he got. When he showed me the photo, I saw the girl I had just passed and told him he was too late LOL.
So the time for the run was 58 min, 12 sec :) Fast 10km :D wooooohooooooooooo. 5min 49sec a km so very very happy. After I took my tag off and went to Mark, we went to the car to go to Brighton to eat a nice breakfast. At the car, I saw Sonia running through and I cheered her on.
We went to Brighton and ate a nice breakfast. Not much, but I couldn't eat it all. I saw one of the girls who was head to head with me and we talked for a bit :)
On the way home, we went to Earlwood and picked up some nice Greek biscuits which Mark was very happy with. They should be nice to have later with some tea. Now the next run is the Run4Fun 10km run in Homebush in 3 weeks! And there are plans for another run before the new year is out and I'm finding out more info about it as this is written.
