Basquiat died of a heroin overdose at the age of 27. There is a new documentary movie out now called "Basquiat - The Radiant Child". My friend Claudia's song "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" is on the soundtrack of the movie. She never mentioned him to me but I am pretty sure she knew him. Basquiat was a protege of Andy Warhol, and Claudia was associated with people in Warhol's inner circle. Also, Basquiat was the star of a movie called "Dowtown 81" and Claudia had a small role in the movie. Claudia once told me the story of how a friend of hers had died, and putting the pieces together, I think she was talking about Basquiat. If it was him, then his death was not due to an accidental overdose. Mo Money Mo Problems - Biggie, Mase, Puff Daddy Joel OsteenOther · April 24th, 2010 23:30 I highly recommend the books written by Joel Osteen. The one I just finished reading is "Become a Better You". I think he has a great way of approaching life. Here is a passage I especially like: You may be fighting some serious battles, but the good news is, God is bigger than anything that you're facing. He can make a way even when it looks like there is no way. Don't quit living your life. Don't let that obstacle be the central focus of your existence. Keep pressing forward, trusting God, and knowing that as you believe, all things are possible. It may look dark and bleak now, but the Scripture says, "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning." It doesn't matter what the situation looks like in the natural, because our God is a supernatural God. When you are trusting in Him, you can rest. You needn't be stressed out or worried. You know that everything is going to be all right. You know that God has you in the palm of His hand. As you continue in peace, God will make sure that you fulfill every single day that He has ordained for you. The Bible says: "No man can snatch you out of God's hands." That means no sickness is too great, no enemy too powerful. If God be for you, who dare even be against you? Even when you are uncomfortable, remind yourself that you will come out better than you entered the situation. Even in the worst-case scenario - if we die - we go to heaven to be with the Lord! I posted the dance mix video of her record a few days ago. I was chatting yesterday with the guy who put the mix on youtube, and long story short, I got him the actual video of the record. He just put it on youtube and here it is. The girl in the video is a model but my friend Claudia is doing the actual vocals. It's on the soundtrack of the movie Grosse Pointe Blank, and Rolling Stone gave the album it is on (Perfect Beats) its highest rating of 5 stars. Sometimes I wonder how the heck did I get to make out with her? This is the wikipedia on Dominatrix: Dominatrix was a synthpop band from New York City, best remembered for their 1984 club hit, "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight". Although short lived as a group, their lone hit single was highly influential in the freestyle genre. [edit] History The band's only single was the controversial "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight", released in 1984. The track became a pioneering force in the freestyle genre, and was noted for its use of spoken lyrics. The song's video, directed by Beth B., featured a fur and stocking-clad Dominique Davalos, and it was the imagery in the video set against the subject matter of the song that prevented it from becoming a mainstream success. Commercial radio stations banned the single, and MTV refused to air the risque video. Though the song was doomed to commercial failure in the pop charts, it became a highly popular single in New York clubs where Dominatrix performed regularly, and also made waves throughout Europe. Due to the success of "The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight", the group toured as an opening act for Grace Jones, but soon dissolved to pursue other musical projects. Stuart Argabright has continued working as a producer, and Dominique Davalos has appeared in several films and released solo records of her own. She now plays in The Blue Bonnets, an all-female rock band. There were survivors in the water and a rescue helicopter came and dropped lifelines to pick up some of the people. One of them, a woman named Priscilla Tirado, could not hold on and was about to perish. Then, out of nowhere, a bystander named Lenny Skutnik just jumped into the water and dragged the woman to safety. Here was a disaster scene, with trained rescue workers doing the best they could to help this woman but were unable to save her. But an ordinary person passing by just jumped in and rescued the woman. That is about the best thing I have ever seen an ordinary person ever do. I still get tears in my eyes watching it. I guess everyone has a couple of songs that touch them to the deepest part of their being. This is one for me. It was a minor hit in 1982 but never got the popularity it might have because the record label went out of business. But those that remember it love it. I think the song expresses exactly how it feels to be head over heels in love with someone and not knowing if your love will be returned, the feelings of doubt and hope. I think it's about the type of love you feel maybe only a few times in your life. And to make it even better, I posted a comment on youtube a few months back, and the lead singer saw it and thanked me. Sometimes life is perfect. It is a required course. Only the time you take is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite. This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way: Nothing real can be threatened. Herein lies the peace of God.
