I went back to Staples today

Other ·

Because I needed some HP ink. But also there is this girl Lauren who works there. I have been getting this vibe from her. The first time I saw her I asked her a question about something and she got real close to me, like girlfriend close. Then another time she was at the register and she started telling me some inside joke about something going on in the store. I didn't get the joke but I laughed anyway. Then another time I saw her across the store and we locked eyes. Could be my imagination but I don't think so. Today I go to the store and don't see her. Another girl is at the register and I am counting out some change to give to the cashier and I look up and there is Lauren who apparently felt an urgent need to talk to the cashier at that exact moment. I was looking for an opening to talk to her but it didn't present itself. But I am thinking there is something going on here...maybe one day I'll melt with her.

The art of kissing

Other ·

Many people don't know how to kiss. I have studied and practiced this art with some of the best and this video is a good illustration of people who know how to kiss.

Eulogy for my aunt

Other ·

My Aunt Mary had Alzheimers and was in a nursing home for years. The first time I visited her there with her daughter (my cousin) she had stopped talking. She did show an occasional sign of recognition. When I left her that day I kissed her cheek and she kissed me back. My cousin moved to Florida while her mother stayed in a nursing home in New York. Last time I called my cousin her the phone had been disconnected and I haven't heard from her in the last 3 years or so. Yesterday I googled my aunt's name and found she died 2 years ago in the nursing home. Not unexpected but sad that her death went unnoticed. She lived a long life but not an easy one. I had a good relationship with her into adulthood. Before her illness, she would always send me a birthday card, and I got the feeling that she respected me more than some other relatives much closer to me. One time when I visited her we brought some pictures of her in her younger days and hung them in her room. One of them was a picture of me with her when I was a child. So I dedicate this song by John Prine called "Hello in there" to her:

Yesterday was Mozart's birthday

Other ·

It got me thinking about classical music. I used to belong to a record club and bought some classical music CDs. I didn't listen to most of them because I wasn't sure I knew enough about classical music to enjoy them. But I got an idea yesterday. I have started playing them as background music when I am doing other things like being on the computer or reading. I don't need to know intellectually about the music to listen. And if I have it low in the background while reading, it reminds me of Barnes & Noble which usually plays classical music in their stores.

I said goodbye to Snoopy

I won this stuffed animal at an amusement park when I was 17. He has been mainly in my basement since then and he got very dirty. I recently threw him out. I took a picture of him before I did that and it makes me kind of sad he is gone.

I got ticked off last night

Other ·

Last night before I went to bed I looked out my window and there is a car parked partially blocking my driveway. It had out of state plates and I didn't recognize it as any of my neighbors' cars. Stuff like this really bugs me even though I had no intention of using my car last night. It's an aggressive show of disrespect. I waited up an hour to see if the driver would come back but they didn't. The car was gone early this morning. They knew they had parked blocking my driveway because they pulled up right to the bumper of the next car but it was still blocking my driveway. I could have parked my other car against its bumper and it then couldn't leave the spot, but I didn't. I gave this person a free pass this time. But that is the only pass they are getting. You have to put an end to stuff like this quickly or people will continue to do it again. My choices of action if this happens tonight is to tell the driver to move if I see him or her parking, or I can call law enforcement (311), or I could leave a note, or I could block them in with my other car. I will do one of them if it happens again.

I am helping someone win a trip to the Super Bowl

Other · · 2 comments

The sports radio station WFAN is having a contest to win Super Bowl tickets. I am a member of a sports website that is trying to figure out the trivia questions to win the prize. One audio question is the key to winning the tickets. I put the audio question on youtube and we are trying to figure out the mystery voice in the audio. The best guess right now is Phil McConkey.
