A Poem: Acidic Memory

Poems ·

Are we anything,
to make a castle out of the weeds?
Are we breathing still,
even if we are pretending this heart doesn't bleed?

I'm just waiting for the next moment,
to burn my throat like an acidic memory.
I'm wondering through all the smoke and mirrors,
is there any room for me?

You don't look back in awe,
maybe I've just aged past my grace.
Maybe there's no longer mystic and love,
at least not when you look into my face.

I'm evolving,
an evolution of being alone.
I'm defaulting,
into the fact that I am at home.

This small, cramped, two bedroom house.
With an absentee spouse.
Drinking bottles in a non-fancy way,
never thought we'd be spending another empty day.

If I could get just get the same attention,
perhaps the inch of aching affections.

I'm just waiting for the next moment,
to burn my throat like an acidic memory.
I'm starting to doubt this whole love thing,
maybe it's not a possibility for me.
