People have been saying to me for a while i should try brewing my own wine... on account that i er like it so much sooo me and my sis were at a Car Boot (garage sale) last week and spotted a Home Brewing Wine kit.. well she did, i spotted a gorgeous silver bracelet, anyway twice round all the stalls, few more xmas presents bought, i love car boot sales this time of year, people are getting rid of the crap presents they got bought last year and you do get some real bargains specially if your prepared to knock people down on price.... which i do do anywhoooo we ends up back at the wine making kit stall (and the silver bracelet) we walks away with the kit ( which she paid full price for, she has nt quite got the hang of haggling ) and i walks away with the bracelet..... half the price
One week later were round my house, few glasses of wine and we decides to start on this kit, first shock on opening the box there was 2 buckets in it
Me...how much fk wine we going to be making
Her.. No idiot ,its to keep moving the wine from one bucket to the other.................. she did try to explain but i d gone for more wine by then.... ready bottled stuff.
Me... i ve got a mop bucket, that would ve worked
we boiled the kettle, sent the youngest down the shop for sugar cos we did nt have enough poured boiling hot water into one bucket and added the sugar she s reading out the instructions and i m doing the bidding, now you can see this is nt going to bode well, i m no good at being told what to do..... she gave me one sachet to open and pour in
Me... prob here
Me ... its coming out red, i don't like red wine
Her.. Me neither, if it does nt work out well we ll give them as xmas presents
a couple more sachets goes in last one was yeast.... that was fun, it kinda frothed a little, right she says we put the lid on loosely and put it somewhere warm for 6 days, i put it in my sitting room, its warm there and if it was going to froth up anymore i wanted to keep an eye on it.
Gets up sunday morning goes into the sitting room and checks on our bucket of wine... how refined is that well the yeast had frothed up a lot more and to be honest it looked gross i gets on the phone
Me... this wine does nt look to good
Her..whats up with it ?
Me... its frothed up to twice its size and looks like some kind of swamp monster
Her.. that's prob what its supposed to look like........( ok for her, its not in her sitting room )
Me...Am i supposed to stir it or not ??
Her.. no, just leave it alone
Me... thank god for that, i did nt want to wake the beast .....
anyway here we are 6 days later, she s coming round tonight to do what ever we have to do with the stuff
OMFG i ve just read the instructions ( first time for everything i guess ) we ve to tip it from one bucket to the other SIX times, i m going ask cant we just pour it in the mop bucket and swirl it around..... weve even got a hydrometer ... not sure what were meant to do with that, i screwed the instructions up and threw them
to be honest this seems to much like hard work and i m guessing the end product has never seen a grape in its life, unless it was driven past a vineyard on its way to which ever shop to be sold as a wine making kit !!.. but i must say its been an interesting learning curve and i for one am so gratefull to the people that send my wine to the shop ready bottled..... which going by the price i pay has prob never seen a grape either
